Digital Smile
Design

Digital Smile Design combines photography, video and digital scans to study the relationship between the teeth, gums, lips and face.

The proposed smile becomes a visual reference for discussing what could change, what should remain and which treatment options may be appropriate.

THE PROCESS

From conversation to considered plan.

01 · Your priorities

We begin by understanding what concerns you, what you would like to change and what you value about your existing smile.

02 · Digital records

Photographs, video and digital scans capture the teeth, bite, expression and smile in movement. Additional imaging may be required depending on the treatment being considered.

03 · Smile design

The proposed tooth position, shape and proportions are developed in relation to your facial features. The design can then be reviewed and refined with you.

04 · Treatment planning

Once the concept is agreed, we consider the most appropriate way to achieve it. This might involve whitening, orthodontics, composite bonding, veneers, crowns, implants or a combination of treatments.

DIGITAL PLANNING IN PRACTICE

From proposed design to individual smile.

Digital planning helped establish the intended tooth proportions, position and overall character before treatment. The final result was then refined clinically to complement the patient’s face and retain a natural appearance.

Treatment shown is specific to this patient. Images are displayed with consent, and individual outcomes vary.

Begin with the design—not the dentistry.

Your consultation is an opportunity to explore your concerns, understand the possibilities and develop a plan that feels considered, proportionate and personal to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Digital Smile Design a treatment?

No. It is a method of assessment, visualisation and communication that helps guide the treatment plan. The clinical treatment required is different for every patient.

Will I see my proposed smile?

A digital simulation can usually be created. In suitable cases, a provisional physical mock-up may also allow elements of the proposed design to be viewed in the mouth before definitive treatment.

Will the preview be exactly the same as the final result?

No. Simulations and mock-ups are planning aids rather than guarantees. The final result is affected by anatomy, dental health, material limitations and the treatment ultimately agreed.

Does smile design always mean veneers?

No. Digital planning may show that whitening, orthodontics, composite bonding or limited treatment is more appropriate. In some cases, no treatment may be the right decision.

Can it be used for implant treatment?

Yes. The intended tooth position can help inform restorative and implant planning, including complex rehabilitation and full-arch treatment.

Do I need to keep seeing my regular dentist?

Yes. Market Cross Dental is a referral practice, and patients must remain under the routine care of a current general dental practitioner.
